Chenin Blanc at the Core
Chenin Blanc forms the heart of the Alheit portfolio. The variety has a long history in the Cape and thrives in the region’s warm climate and diverse soils. Small amounts of other varieties such as Semillon may also play a role in certain cuvées.
Fermentation is carried out using indigenous yeasts to allow the wines to develop naturally. Ageing typically takes place in neutral French oak barrels or large foudres, where the wines gain texture and complexity without noticeable oak influence. Lees ageing is an important part of the process, contributing depth while preserving freshness and clarity.
The wines are known for their remarkable balance between richness and precision. Aromas of citrus, yellow apple and stone fruit are complemented by subtle honeyed and mineral notes. On the palate they combine depth, vibrant acidity and a long, saline finish. Alheit Vineyards produces wines that are widely regarded as some of the finest expressions of Chenin Blanc in South Africa.
