Brewer-Clifton

The Energy of the Sta. Rita Hills

Brewer-Clifton was founded by Greg Brewerand Steve Clifton with a clear vision: to express the unique terroir of the Sta. Rita Hills in Santa Barbara County. From the beginning, the project focused on vineyards strongly influenced by the Pacific Ocean, where cool temperatures, coastal fog and steady winds create ideal conditions for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

The Sta. Rita Hills is one of the feweast–west oriented valleys on the Californian coast. This geological orientation allows cold ocean air to travel deep inland, significantly moderating the climate and extending the growing season. The vineyards are planted on a mix of marine sediment, sand and clay soils, which contribute to the wines’ structure and mineral character.

Site-Driven Pinot Noir and Chardonnay

Brewer-Clifton focuses almost exclusively on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay sourced from carefully selected vineyard sitescvacross the Sta. Rita Hills. Each vineyard is vinified separately in order to capture the nuances of site and exposure.

Fermentation is carried out with careful attention to balance and purity of fruit. The wines are then aged in French oakbarrels, where they develop texture and complexity while maintaining clarity and freshness. The use of oak is measured so that the character of the vineyard remains central.

The Pinot Noirs show vibrant red fruit, floral aromatics and fine tannins, supported by bright acidity and a long, mineral finish. The Chardonnays combine citrus and stone fruit with subtle oak integration and remarkable tension. Brewer-Clifton produces wines that capture the freshness, energy and precision that define the Sta. Rita Hills.
