Caladan

A New Chapter in Napa Valley

Caladan is a modern Napa Valley project created by renowned winemaker Chris Carpenter. The winery takes its name from the fictional planet in Frank Herbert’s Dune universe, reflecting a sense of ambition and exploration behind the project. From its inception, the goal has been to produce wines that combine the richness of Napa Valley with precision and balance.

The fruit for Caladan is sourced from carefully selected vineyard sites across Napa Valley, including mountain vineyards known for producing fruit with exceptional structure and concentration. These sites benefit from diverse soils, ranging from volcanic rock to well-drained gravel, as well as the cooling influences that shape Napa Valley’s varied microclimates.

Precision Cabernet Sauvignon

Caladan focuses primarily on Cabernet Sauvignon, a variety that thrives in Napa Valley’s diverse terroirs. Small amounts of other Bordeaux varieties may complement the final blend, adding complexity and structure.

Fermentation takes place in small lots, allowing each vineyard parcel to be handled individually and preserving the identity of the fruit. The wines are then aged in French oak barrels, where they develop depth and integration while maintaining balance and freshness.

The wines show intense aromas of cassis, blackberry and dark cherry layered with notes of graphite, cocoa and subtlespice. On the palate they combine dense fruit with polished tannins and vibrant acidity. Caladan produces Cabernet Sauvignon that reflects both the power of Napa Valley and the precision of modern winemaking.
