La Jota

Historic Heights of Howell Mountain

La Jota Vineyard Co. is one of thehistoric estates of Howell Mountain in Napa Valley. The vineyard was firstplanted in 1898, making it one of the earliest vineyard sites established onthe mountain. Located high above the valley floor, the estate sits atelevations of roughly 500 to 800 meters, where cooler temperatures and ruggedterrain shape a distinctive style of Napa Valley wine.

The vineyards are planted on volcanicsoils composed of fractured rock and iron-rich clay. These well-drained soilsnaturally limit vine vigor and produce small, concentrated berries. Combinedwith the cooler mountain climate and significant diurnal temperature shifts, these conditions allow the grapes to develop depth and structure whilemaintaining freshness.

Power and Precision from Mountain Fruit

La Jota focuses on varieties that thrive in the mountain environment of Howell Mountain. Cabernet Sauvignon plays the leading role in the portfolio, alongside Merlot and Cabernet Franc. These varieties develop exceptional structure and concentration in the mountain vineyards.

Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled tanks to preserve fruit purity and allow careful extraction. The wines are then aged in French oak barrels, where they develop complexity and structure while maintaining balance and integration.

The wines are known for their depth and intensity. Cabernet Sauvignon shows dark cassis, blackberry and graphite, supported by firm mountain tannins and fresh acidity. Merlot adds richness and texture, while Cabernet Franc contributes aromatic lift and spice. La Jota produces wines that capture the strength, structure and character of Howell Mountain.
