Hartford Court

Cool-Climate Vineyards of Sonoma

Hartford Court is a highly regarded winery in Sonoma County known for its focus on cool-climate vineyard sites. Founded in the mid-1990s by Don and Jennifer Hartford, the project quickly gained recognition for producing site-driven Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from some ofthe most distinctive vineyards along the Sonoma Coast and in the Russian RiverValley.

The vineyards are located in areas strongly influenced by the Pacific Ocean. Coastal fog, cool temperatures and long growing seasons allow the grapes to ripen slowly while preserving natural acidity and aromatic precision. The soils vary from sandy loam in the Russian River Valley to more rugged coastal soils closer to the Pacific, giving each vineyard its own character.

Single-Vineyard Expression

Hartford Court focuses primarily on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, varieties that thrive in Sonoma’s cooler vineyard sites. Many of the wines are produced as single-vineyard bottlings, allowing each location to express its distinct personality.

Fermentation is carried out with careful attention to balance and fruit purity. The wines are then aged in French oakbarrels, where they develop structure and complexity while maintaining freshness and precision. The use of oak varies depending on the vineyard and vintage but is always integrated carefully.

The Pinot Noirs show vibrant red fruit, floral aromatics and refined tannins, supported by bright acidity and subtlespice. The Chardonnays combine citrus and stone fruit with mineral tension and delicate oak influence. Hartford Court produces wines that capture the elegance and energy of Sonoma’s cool-climate vineyards.
