Mt. Brave

Mountain Terroir of Mount Veeder

Mt. Brave is a mountain estate located high on the slopes of Mount Veeder in Napa Valley, one of the region’s most rugged and distinctive sub-appellations. The vineyards sit at elevations ranging from roughly 400 to 800 meters above sea level, where steep slopes, thin soils and dramatic exposures create ideal conditions for concentrated mountain fruit.

Mount Veeder is known for its rocky, well-drained soils composed of shale and sandstone. These conditions naturally limit vine vigor and yields, resulting in grapes with remarkable intensity and structure. The elevation also brings cooler temperatures and significant day–night temperature shifts, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly while maintaining freshness and balance.

Cabernet with Mountain Structure

Mt. Brave focuses on Bordeaux varieties that thrive in the mountain environment of Mount Veeder. Cabernet Sauvignon forms the backbone of the wines, supported by varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec depending on the cuvée.

Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled tanks, allowing careful extraction and preservation of fruit purity. The wines are then aged in French oak barrels, where they develop structure, depth and integration over time.

The wines show intense dark fruit, cassis and blackberry layered with notes of graphite, cedar and mountain herbs. Firm tannins and vibrant acidity give the wines both power and precision. Mt. Brave produces Napa Valley wines that reflect the distinctive character of mountain vineyards, combining concentration with remarkable elegance and ageing potential.
