Petrolo

A Hidden Jewel of the Val d’Arno

Petrolo is a historic estate located inthe hills of the Val d’Arno di Sopra, southeast of Florence, between the Chianti Classico region and the city of Arezzo. The estate has been owned by the Bazzocchi family for generations and today is led by Luca Sanjust, who has transformed Petrolo into one of Tuscany’s most respected producers.

The vineyards are situated at altitudes between 250 and 450 meters above sea level and are planted on soils composed largely of galestro, clay and sandstone. These conditions provide excellent drainage and allow the vines to develop deep root systems. The surrounding forests and elevated exposures create a unique microclimate that helps preserve freshness while allowing full phenolic ripeness.

Tuscan Identity with Precision

Petrolo focuses on a small number ofcarefully selected grape varieties, most notably Sangiovese and Merlot. Theestate has become particularly renowned for wines that combine Tuscan structurewith remarkable elegance and depth.

Fermentation takes place intemperature-controlled tanks, allowing precise extraction and preservation offruit purity. The wines are then aged in French oak barrels, where they developstructure and complexity over time. The proportion of new oak varies dependingon the cuvée, with the goal always being to support the character of thevineyard rather than dominate it.

The wines show dark cherry, plum andfloral notes alongside subtle spice and mineral undertones. On the palate theycombine concentration with balance, supported by fine tannins and vibrantacidity. Petrolo produces wines that are both powerful and refined, offering adistinctive expression of Tuscany’s diverse terroirs.
