A Reference Point in Southern Montalcino
Poggio di Sotto is widely regarded as one of the most revered estates of Brunello di Montalcino. The winery is located near Castel nuovo del l’Abate in the southeastern part of the appellation, an area known for producing some of the most refined and aromatic expressions of Sangiovese. Founded in 1989 by Piero Palmucci, the estate quickly gained a reputation for wines that combined purity, structure and exceptional ageing potential.
The vineyards are situated between roughly 200 and 400 meters above sea level and benefit from a unique micro climate influenced by nearby Mount Amiata. The soils consist primarily of galestro and marl, which give the wines both structure and aromatic complexity. Careful vineyard management and low yields are essential to maintaining the balance and elegance that define the estate’s wines.
