Château de Charodon, located in Montagny-lès-Beaune near Beaune, is the personal project of Louis Vallet, created together with his brother Thibault and their father Bernard. The Vallet family originates from Gevrey-Chambertin, where Bernard is co-owner of the well-established Domaine Pierre Bourée. Rather than continuing solely within the family domaine, Louis chose to develop his own vision in Burgundy. The project is based in the historic Château de Charodon, a property that has belonged to his mother’s family since the Middle Ages. Here, Louis founded a small négociant house dedicated to carefully selecting and vinifying wines that reflect the diversity of Burgundy’s terroirs. His experience working alongside respected figures such as Pascal Marchand and Bernard Zito has strongly influenced his philosophy: wines that emphasise purity of fruit, balance and authenticity rather than excessive manipulation.

Château de Charodon produces both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay sourced from carefully selected vineyard sites across Burgundy. The range spans from regional appellations to some of the region’s most prestigious crus, including Corton-Charlemagne and Corton-Renardes. Since the first vintage in 2010, when only 1,200 bottles were produced, the domaine has grown steadily while maintaining a small-scale, quality-driven approach. By 2021, production had expanded to over 42,000 bottles.Vinification is carried out with a focus on preserving the identity of each site. Fermentations are handled with precision and restraint, allowing the fruit to express itself naturally. The wines are then aged in French oak barrels, where they develop structure and complexity while maintaining balance and clarity. The resulting wines are expressive and approachable, combining generous fruit with the elegance expected from Burgundy. Château de Charodon represents a modern négociant project rooted in tradition, driven by a clear vision and a deep respect for the region’s great terroirs.
