Vérité was founded in 1998 by Jess Jackson with the ambition of creating wines in Sonoma County that could rival the great wines of Bordeaux. To realise this vision, he partnered with renowned Bordeaux winemaker Pierre Seillan, whose deep understanding of terroir and blending became the foundation of the project.
The vineyards are spread across several of Sonoma County’s most respected areas, including Alexander Valley, Bennett Valley, Knights Valley and Chalk Hill. Each site offers different soils, elevations and exposures. Pierre Seillan applies a philosophy he calls “micro-cru viticulture,” where individual vineyard blocks are treated separately to capture the unique character of each parcel. This meticulous approach allows the wines to achieve both power and precision.
Vérité produces three principal wines, each inspired by a classical Bordeaux model: La Muse, La Joie and Le Désir. The blends are built primarily around Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, with smaller contributions from other Bordeaux varieties depending on the vintage.
Fermentation takes place in small lots to preserve the identity of each vineyard parcel. The wines are then aged in French oak barrels, where they slowly develop structure and complexity before the final blends are assembled.
The resulting wines are layered and highly structured, showing blackcurrant, plum and dark cherry alongside notes of graphite, cedar and spice. Fine tannins and vibrant acidity provide both balance and remarkable ageing potential. Vérité has earned worldwide acclaim, including multiple perfect scores from critics, placing it among the most celebrated Bordeaux-style wines of California.
